Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
When the winter showers fall, my heart circles the mountains along with them, drooping and thinking only, how long can this go on? the poet says, laying the drooping of what the showers soak over a heart that thinks of life's limit.
First line, “shigurureba”: when the showers fall.
Second line, “yamameguri suru”: yamameguri is the showers moving from mountain to mountain, a word also found in 788.
Third line, “kokoro kana”: kana is exclamatory; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “itsu made to nomi”: thinking only, until when.
Fifth line, “uchishioretsutsu”: drooping, the soaking by the showers joined to the drooping of the heart.
