Headnote: "Reply"
This is the reply of Kaga, a lady-in-waiting to the Ōmiya, to the preceding poem. The sky under which I leave you is wet with dewy tears, and autumn too is ending; such is the sorrow of this journey, she answers.
Taking up "autumn ends" and "the sky of the journey," she replies that the one who leaves feels the grief of parting too. The loneliness of the one left behind and the sadness of the one departing are laid over the same moment, the end of autumn.
First line, “kimi o okite”: leaving you behind; the line has an extra syllable.
Second line, “tachiizuru sora no”: of the sky I set out under, answering "the sky of the journey."
Third line, “tsuyukesa ni”: in its dampness, dew and tears overlaid.
Fourth line, “aki sae kururu”: sae adds, "even autumn ends," answering "aki wa kure."
Fifth line, “tabi no kanashisa”: ending on a noun, the sorrow of the one who leaves lingers.
