Headnote: "Topic unknown"
The loneliness of this sorrowful grass hut is that no one comes to call except the wind, the poet says.
The solitude of one living in a mountain hut is shown concisely by saying that only the wind visits. Personifying the wind as a caller makes the absence of people all the sharper.
First line, “awaretaru”: both the text and the reading line have awaretaru, taken as "deeply sorrowful."
Second line, “kusa no iori no”: of the humble grass-thatched hut.
Third line, “sabishisa wa”: its loneliness.
Fourth line, “kaze yori hoka ni”: other than the wind, the wind seen as a visitor.
Fifth line, “tou hito zo naki”: zo is emphatic, answered by the attributive naki.
