Miscellaneous Poems 1246
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "One hundred and ten love poems"
Even if people grow suspicious of my manner and question me, I am determined not to let my feelings out, the poet says.
Following the preceding poem's worry that his concealment shows, he declares that even if challenged he will never reveal his love, a firm resolve to keep it hidden.
First line, “keshiki o ba”: my looks, stressed by o ba.
Second line, “ayamete hito no”: ayamu is to suspect.
Third line, “togamu tomo”: tomo is a concessive supposition, "even if they question me."
Fourth line, “uchimakasete wa”: letting it all out as it will.
Fifth line, “iwaji to zo omou”: ji is negative volition; zo is emphatic, answered by the attributive omou.
