Miscellaneous Poems 1270
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "One hundred and ten love poems"
From now on, even if I must brood without meeting, I will not give myself to one who will make me suffer afterward, the poet says.
Hurt by a lover grown cold after their meeting, he resolves never again to yield. Following the preceding poem's regret, it shows the resolve of one who has learned love's bitterness.
First line, “ima yori wa”: from now on.
Second line, “awade mono o ba”: de is a negative conjunction, "brooding without meeting."
Third line, “omou to mo”: to mo is a concessive supposition, "even if I brood."
Fourth line, “nochi uki hito ni”: to one who will pain me afterward.
Fifth line, “mi o ba makaseji”: ji is negative volition, "I will not give myself."
