Headnote: "As I went on living there, the hut seemed to me deeply moving"
As he went on living in the hut in Sanuki, it came to move him deeply. From now on he will not despise his life, for only because he lives can he know the charm of such a dwelling.
A recluse who has spurned long life, touched by the deep feeling of life in the hut, feels anew the worth of being alive. Following the moon's beauty in the preceding poem, it affirms the emotion one meets only by living.
First line, “ima yori wa”: from now on.
Second line, “itowaji inochi”: ji is negative volition, "I will not despise my life"; the poem breaks after the second line.
Third line, “areba koso”: koso is answered by the realis shire.
Fourth line, “kakaru sumai no”: of such a dwelling.
Fifth line, “aware o mo shire”: one knows its charm too.
