Miscellaneous Poems 1418
Headnote: none
Renewing the heart he had when he renounced the world, he will part for good from the worldly people he sees, the poet says.
Following the two preceding poems' reflections on incomplete renunciation, he resolves to return to the spirit of his first vows and break with the world anew. The movement of the heart from reflection to resolve shows through.
First line, “suteshi ori no”: of the time I cast it off; the line has an extra syllable.
Second line, “kokoro o sara ni”: that heart, once more.
Third line, “aratamete”: renewing it.
Fourth line, “miru yo no hito ni”: from the people of the world I see.
Fifth line, “wakarehatenan”: nan joins perfective nu and volitional n, "I will part completely."
