Book Nine Miscellaneous Poems I 313
Seeing the showery sky of the tenth month, the poet too sheds tears. The "aspect of the sky" is overlaid with the manner of one who does not care for the poet, making the sky's showers and the poet's tears one.
Poem 324 of this book also sings of the showers of the tenth month, turning its thoughts to oneself and to others who watch the same sky.
The first line, "omowarenu," combines the passive "ru" and attributive negative: not cared for, hinting at a lover's coldness.
The second line, "sora no keshiki o" (the look of the sky), refers to the weather and also the other's manner.
The third line, "miru kara ni," means as soon as I see.
The fourth line, "ware mo shigururu," adds with "mo" "I too," overlaying showers falling with tears shed.
The final line, "kannazuki kana," ends with the exclamatory "kana," naming the tenth month, the season of showers.
