Ima wa tada mukashi zo tsune ni koiraruru nokori arishi o omoide ni shite

English Translation
Now it is only
the old days that I always
find myself longing for,
keeping as my memory
the time when much remained
Meaning
Now I find myself always longing only for the past, cherishing the memory of a time when much of life still lay ahead.
Commentary
Book Nine Miscellaneous Poems I 343

Now grown old, the poet always longs for the past, when much of life still remained. Contrasting a present with little left and a past with much ahead, the poem conveys nostalgia for days gone by.
Poem 345 of this book also sings of longing for the past, continuing a run of poems of yearning for former days.

The first line, "ima wa tada" (now only), means as things are now.
The second line, "mukashi zo tsune ni," singles out the past with the emphatic "zo."
The third line, "koiraruru," closes "zo" with the attributive spontaneous "raru," a kakari-musubi: I cannot help longing, with a break after the third line.
The fourth line, "nokori arishi o," uses the attributive past "shi" for the time when much of life remained.
The final line, "omoide ni shite," means keeping it as a memory, giving by inversion the reason for longing.
