Headnote: "On a folding screen depicting Mount Yoshino"
Responding to a screen painting of Mount Yoshino, the poet wonders whether the mountain folk who live secluded there look on the cherries in full bloom as though they were flowers in their own gardens. A note of envy for those who live among the famous blossoms comes through.
The Ruijū and Teika texts differ in the last line.
Line 1 repeats the same opening amid the series of Yoshino poems.
Line 2 means those who withdrew from villages to live in the hills.
Line 3: ya is an interrogative particle, taking up the yamabito of 49.
Line 4: o ba is an emphatic form of o, leading to "as belonging to their homes."
Line 5 concludes the ya construction with the attributive ramu. After 49 wished to become one of the mountain folk, this poem guesses at their feelings.
