Spring Poems 121
Headnote: "Composed on yellow kerria on a rainy day"
On a rainy day the wind blows through the kerria blossoms holding the spring rain's dew; the dew spills and the flowers glow more beautifully. The poem captures the instant when the wind makes the dew-clad yellow kerria sparkle. Kamo no Mabuchi said the second and fourth lines are in a later manner.
Line 1 takes up "a rainy day" from the headnote.
Line 2, "where the dew lodges," means the blossoms, the same line as in 54; Mabuchi called it a later style.
Line 3 names the wind that scatters the dew.
Line 4 means the dew spills and the flowers glow; Mabuchi also judged this a later style.
Line 5 ends on a noun, the same closing as 115, 116, and 119.
