Winter Poems 352
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Plovers"
The beach plovers, treading the snow piled on the rocky shore, are drenched and drooping in the waves and cry in the night. In the small plovers beset by snow and waves, the poet sees the harshness of the winter seashore.
Line 1 means "the snow that has fallen and piled up."
Line 2 describes the plovers treading the snowy rocks of the shore.
Line 3 is the plovers of the beach. Against the river plovers of the preceding poem, plovers of the seashore are sung from this poem on.
Line 4 means "drenched and drooping in the waves." Line 4 of the next poem is the same.
Line 5: nari infers from sound, telling that the cries are heard in the night.
