Love Poems 524
Headnote: "Love, on the wind"
As the autumn wind that turns over the arrowroot leaves at Adashino cannot be seen, so the resentment of love within cannot be seen, and no one knows of it.
According to the notes in the base text, the Ruijū text differs in line 2. Here the base text is followed.
Line 1 means "of Adashino," a poetic place in Yamashiro.
Line 2 means "blowing the undersides of the arrowroot," ura meaning both underside and heart, suggesting resentment.
Line 3 means "like the autumn wind," leading to "unseen."
Line 4 means "since it cannot be seen," shi being intensive.
Line 5 means "no one knows." It takes up the arrowroot leaves and fickle wind of 516, focusing here on the wind's invisibility.
