Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Snow on a journey"
Even if falling snow erases every footprint, the poet resolves to keep travelling the mountain road of Koshi. Against the lament of the preceding poem at being unable to cross, it shows a firm will to press on through the snow.
The Ruijū text places it in its travel section.
Line 1 means "the snow falling."
Line 2 means "the tracks, without a trace."
Line 3 means "even if they vanish," tomo being a concessive conditional.
Line 4 means "the mountain road of Koshi," koshi meaning both the northern province and crossing over; it answers "I cannot cross" in the preceding poem, turning lament into resolve.
Line 5 means "I will go on without ceasing," mu expressing will; "vanish" and "without ceasing" are set against each other.
