Headnote: "A poem in the year of the rebuilding of the Ise Shrine"
Composed in the year the Ise Shrine was rebuilt, it celebrates that the renewal of the Shrine of the Morning Sun has been safely accomplished and that this is a peaceful age bathed in the divine light. Kamo no Mabuchi marked it with a sign of praise.
The Ruijū text places it in its section on the gods.
Line 1, kamikaze ya, is a pillow word for Ise, here leading to the Shrine of the Morning Sun.
Line 2 means "of the Shrine of the Morning Sun," that is, the Ise Shrine.
Line 3 means "the moving of the shrine," the periodic rebuilding and transfer of the deity.
Line 4 means "the light shining tranquil," kage chosen in keeping with "morning sun."
Line 5 means "it is truly an age," koso concluded by kere in the perfective form.
