Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Celebration through the bamboo"
In the joints of the supple bamboo's countless twigs and leafy branches lie age upon age. Since the space between bamboo joints is called yo, the poet sees yoyo, "ages," stored in the joints, blessing a boundless reign.
The Ruijū text places it among the "poems found in other and printed texts." Line 3 is hard to read in the source as displayed and is here read haeda no.
Line 1 is the same as the preceding poem's.
Line 2 means "of the thousand little twigs," sa a prefix.
Line 3 means "of the leafy branches," four syllables, short of the norm.
Line 4 means "in each of their joints," taking up "the many joints" of the preceding poem.
Line 5 means "ages are stored," yoyo meaning both the segments between joints and "ages"; it moves to bamboo the conceit of a thousand ages stored in every needle of 657 of this book.
