In my lord's reign
let me live on longer still,
for the moon is clear,
and wait for the light that shines
in the autumn sky.

Miscellaneous Poems 669
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "A poem of felicitation"
The poet wishes to live on in his lord's reign and keep awaiting the clear moonlight of the autumn sky. Where the preceding poem blessed the lord's long life, this one voices the poet's own wish to live long under that reign.
The Ruijū text places it in its section of personal grievances.
Line 1 means "in my lord's reign."
Line 2 means "living on still longer," the same word as line 3 of the preceding poem; there the lord lives long, here the poet does, in a reversed pairing.
Line 3 means "since the moon is clear," mi expressing cause.
Line 4 means "of the autumn sky," mi an honorific prefix.
Line 5 means "I would wait for its light."
