since they are the very same
cherry blossoms still,

never changes, I now see

Book One Spring Poems 60
Because the cherries bloom the same way every year, the poet says in plain words that his regret at their falling is also unchanged. Unchanging flowers and an unchanging heart are laid one upon the other.
First line, 'harugoto ni', is the same opening as poem 53.
Second line, 'onaji sakura no', means the same cherries that bloom unchanged each year.
Third line, 'hana nareba', means since they are the flowers, a definite causal condition.
Fourth line, 'oshimu kokoro mo', uses mo, adding that not only the flowers but the heart too is unchanged.
Final line, 'kawarazari keri', means it does not change, expressing realization.
