Book One Spring Poems 90
Grieving so for spring as it runs out completely, the poet says he has exhausted even his own heart. Overlapping spring's coming to an end with the spending of his heart, he expresses the depth of his sorrow at spring's passing.
First line, 'nokori naku', means entirely, with nothing remaining.
Second line, 'kureyuku haru o', is spring drawing to a close, the theme of the end of spring.
Third line, 'oshimu tote', means in grieving for it.
Fourth line, 'kokoro o sae mo', uses the additive sae: not only spring but even my heart.
Final line, 'tsukushitsuru kana', means I have exhausted it, overlapping spring running out with the heart spent.
