a model for ten thousand ages,
upon it even
the snow is piling up:
what a year this is
Meaning
On the pine that seems a model for ten thousand ages, even the snow is piling up; what a year this is.
Commentary
Book Five Celebration Poems 332

On the pine that seems a model of long life for ten thousand ages, even snow, the sign of a bountiful year, is piling up; what a truly auspicious year this is, the poem says. Layering the long-lived pine with the auspicious snow, it celebrates a year in which good fortune is doubled.
Using the word tameshi, model, as the opening poem, 305, does in 'a model for the ages flowing on', it answers the beginning of the book. Following poems 329 and 330 in this book, it pairs snow and pine.
From poem 329 through poem 332 in this book come poems, centered on snow and pines, celebrating a reign without end.

First line, 'yorozuyo no', means of ten thousand ages.
Second line, 'tameshi to miyuru', means seen as a model, answering the final line 'tameshi narikeri' of the opening poem, 305.
Third line, 'matsu no ue ni', means upon the pine.
Fourth line, 'yuki sae tsumoru', means even the snow piles up, sae adding the auspicious snow to the pine's long life. It takes up 'snow piling up' in poems 329 and 330 in this book.
Final line, 'toshi ni mo aru kana', means what a year this is, with the exclamatory kana.
