English Translation
I too have a heart
that longs to travel westward,
so do not go in
alone behind the mountains,
O moon of the autumn night
Meaning
I too have a heart that longs to go west, so do not sink behind the hills alone, O moon of the autumn night.
Commentary
Book Nine Miscellaneous Poems I 580

The poet too has a heart that longs to go to the Western Pure Land, so he asks the autumn moon not to sink alone behind the western hills. Seeing the moon setting in the west as journeying to the Western Paradise, he calls to it to take him along, expressing a wish for rebirth in paradise.
Poem 539 in this book also sings of going west with the moon. This poem calls to the moon as it sets in the west not to leave him behind.

First line, 'nishi e yuku', means going west, that is, rebirth in the Western Paradise. It echoes nishi e ya yuku to in the second line of poem 539 in this book.
Second line, 'kokoro wa ware mo', means I too have the heart.
Third line, 'aru mono o', means since I have it, using the particle mono o.
Fourth line, 'hitori na iri so', means do not go in alone, na ... so expressing prohibition; it refers to the moon sinking behind the hills. The poem breaks here.
Final line, 'aki no yo no tsuki', means O moon of the autumn night, an address closing on a noun.
