Book Eleven Variant Poems 703
Night after night the poet stays awake without dozing until the moon lingers in the dawn sky, and these days the brooding never ends. The grief of sleepless nights piling up is expressed through the scene of the dawn moon.
This poem is found only in a variant manuscript line of the anthology; in the variant order it is placed after 584 in Book Nine. Poem 584 laments one's sorrows, saying that only tears do not freeze even on a winter night.
First line, 'yonayona wa', means night after night.
Second line, 'madoromade nomi', means without ever dozing, using the negative particle de and the particle nomi.

Fourth line, 'tsukisezu mono o', means endlessly, my brooding, joining tsuki, the moon of the dawn, with tsukisezu, never ending.
Final line, 'omou koro kana', means these days of brooding, closing with kana.
