Misogi suru kaya no nokiba ni hiku shide no matsuwaretsukite natsu o todomemu
Like the paper streamers hung from the thatched eaves where the purification is held, I would cling and tangle round summer to keep it from leaving.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Waga kuni no yamato shimane no kamitachi o kyō no misogi ni tamuketsuru kana
To the gods of our land, the islands of Yamato, I have made offerings at today's purification.

Mists have risen—it seems autumn has come first to the sky; along the beach of Fukiage blows the salt wind off the bay.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Uchihaete aki wa kinikeri ki no kuni ya yura no misaki no ama no ukenawa
Stretching far and wide, autumn has come—like the long float-lines the fishers lay at the cape of Yura in the province of Kii.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
No to narite ato wa taenishi fukakusa no tsuyu no yadori ni aki wa kinikeri
Even to Fukakusa, gone back to open field with every trace of people vanished, to this dwelling of the dew, autumn has come.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Sumu hito mo naki yado naredo hagi no ha no tsuyu o tazunete aki wa kinikeri
Though no one lives in this house, autumn has come, seeking out the dew on the bush-clover leaves.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Aki wa haya kinikeru mono o ōkata no no ni mo yama ni mo tsuyu zo okunaru
Autumn has already come—everywhere, on fields and hills alike, the dew seems to be settling.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Ima yori wa suzushiku narinu higurashi no naku yamakage no aki no yūkaze
From now on it has turned cool—in the mountain shade where the evening cicadas sing, the autumn evening wind blows.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Fuku kaze no suzushiku mo aru ka onozukara yama no semi nakite aki wa kinikeri
How cool the blowing wind is! Of their own accord the mountain cicadas sing, and autumn has come.
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Koto shigeki yo o nogarenishi yamazato ni ikade tazunete aki no kitsuramu
To this mountain village where I fled a world thick with cares, how has autumn managed to find its way?
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Hitori yuku sode yori oku ka okuyama no koke no toboso no michi no yūtsuyu
Does it fall from my own sleeves as I walk alone—this evening dew on the path to the moss-grown door, deep in the mountains?
Kinkaishu - Minamoto no Sanetomo
Ama no gawa minawa sakamaki yuku mizu no hayaku mo aki no tachinikeru kana
Like the waters of the River of Heaven, churning up foam as they rush along, autumn too has risen so swiftly.
