Momiji mi ni yadoreru ware to shiraneba ya saho no kawagiri tachikakusuran
Is it because they do not know I have stayed here to see the autumn leaves that the river mists of Saho rise and hide them?
Shui Wakashu - Egyō
Momijiba no iro o shi soete nagarureba asaku mo miezu yamakawa no mizu

Today I will keep gazing at the autumn leaves; even if the day grows dark, the dim name of Mount Ogura will not stop me.
Shui Wakashu - Onakatomi no Yoshinobu
Akigiri no tatamaku oshiki yamaji kana momiji no nishiki oritsumoritsutsu

Shui Wakashu - Unknown Poet
Mizu no aya ni momiji no kagami kasanetsutsu kawase ni nami no tatanu hi zo naki

Let each of us break off a spray of autumn leaves and take it home, for we cannot trust the wind's intentions.
Shui Wakashu - Minamoto no Nobumitsu
Eda nagara mite o kaeran momijiba wa oran hodo ni mo chiri mo koso sure
Let us look at them on their branches and go home, for the autumn leaves might scatter even as we try to break them off.
Shui Wakashu - Minamoto no Kanemitsu
Kawagiri no fumoto o komete tachinureba sora ni zo aki no yama wa miekeru
Because the river mist has risen and wrapped the foot of the hills, the autumn mountains seem to float in the sky.
Shui Wakashu - Kiyohara no Fukayabu
Mizuumi ni aki no yamabe o utsushite wa hatabari hiroki nishiki to zo miru
With the autumn hillsides reflected on the lake, I see it as a brocade of great breadth.
Shui Wakashu - Kankyō
Ima yori wa momiji no moto ni yadori seji oshimu ni tabi no hikazu henubeshi
From now on I will not stop for the night beneath the autumn leaves, for in grieving over their falling, the days of my journey would surely slip away.
Shui Wakashu - Egyō
Tou hito mo ima wa arashi no yamakaze ni hito matsumushi no koe zo kanashiki
There will be no one coming to visit now; in the stormy mountain wind, the voices of the pine crickets, waiting for someone, sound so sad.
Shui Wakashu - Unknown Poet
Chirinubeki yama no momiji o akigiri no yasuku mo misezu tachikakusuran
The autumn leaves on the hills will soon scatter, so why does the autumn mist rise and hide them instead of letting me see them freely?
Shui Wakashu - Ki no Tsurayuki
Akiyama no arashi no koe o kiku toki wa konoha naranedo mono zo kanashiki
When I hear the voice of the storm wind in the autumn hills, though I am no leaf, I am filled with sadness.
Shui Wakashu - Henjō
Aki no yo ni ame to kikoete furu mono wa kaze ni shitagau momiji narikeri
What falls on an autumn night, sounding like rain, turns out to be autumn leaves following the wind.
Shui Wakashu - Ki no Tsurayuki
