Nagamuru ni mono omou koto no nagusamu wa tsuki wa ukiyo no hoka yori ya yuku

Shui Wakashu - Ōe no Tamemoto
Kaku bakari hegataku miyuru yo no naka ni urayamashiku mo sumeru tsuki kana

Since I set out later than the horses of Mochizuki, late as the rising full moon, I have crossed the mountain groping my way step by step.
Shui Wakashu - Sosei Hoshi
Tsune yori mo terimasaru kana yama no ha no momiji o wakete izuru tsukikage
How much brighter than usual it shines, the moonlight rising as it parts the autumn leaves along the mountain's rim.
Shui Wakashu - Ki no Tsurayuki
Hisakata no amatsu sora naru tsuki naredo izure no mizu ni kage yadoru ran
Though the moon dwells in the distant sky of heaven, in which waters, I wonder, does it lodge its reflection?
Shui Wakashu - Oshikochi no Mitsune
Minasoko ni yadoru tsuki dani ukaberu o shizumu ya nani no mikuzu naru ran
Even the moon lodged in the depths of the water floats upon its surface, so what sort of drifting rubbish am I, to lie sunk below?
Shui Wakashu - Fujiwara no Naritoki
Mizu no omo ni tsuki no shizumu o mizariseba ware hitori to ya omoihatemashi
Had I not seen the moon sinking in the water's surface, I would surely have come to believe that I alone was sunk in obscurity.
Shui Wakashu - Sugawara no Fumitoki
Toshigoto ni taenu watari ya tsumoritsutsu itodo fukaku wa mi o shizumu ran
Year after year, the tears that never cease keep piling up. Is that why I sink ever deeper?
Shui Wakashu - Kiyohara no Motosuke
Hodo mo naku izumi bakari ni shizumu mi wa ika naru tsumi no fukaki naru ran
Sunk in a mere spring with hardly any depth, what deep sin, I wonder, has brought me to this?
Shui Wakashu - Minamoto no Shitagō
Otowagawa sekiirete otosu takitsuse ni hito no kokoro no mie mo suru kana

Shui Wakashu - Ise
Kimi ga kuru yado ni taesenu taki no ito haete mimahoshiki mono ni zo arikeru
The threads of the waterfall that never cease at this villa where you come are something I would like to draw out long and gaze upon forever.
Shui Wakashu - Nakatsukasa
Nagarekuru taki no shiraito taezu shite ikura no tama no o to ka naru ran
The white threads of the falling waterfall never break off. For how many beads, I wonder, will they serve as the cord?
Shui Wakashu - Ki no Tsurayuki
Nagarekuru taki no ito koso yowakarashi nukedo midarete otsuru shiratama
The threads of the falling waterfall must be weak, for though they are strung with beads, the white beads scatter in disarray as they fall.
Shui Wakashu - Ki no Tsurayuki
