While I am still working out which blade the dew has settled on, the wind may come sweeping across the field of low bamboo.

I am wandering on Irusa hill, where the catalpa bow's arrow goes in, to see whether that faintly glimpsed moon will show itself again.

tsuki naki sora ni mayowamashi ya wa
If your heart were truly set on one person, would you be wandering under a sky with no drawn bow of a moon in it?

mi no uki hodo zo itodo shiraruru
I see only his reflection on the Mitarashi stream as he passes without a glance, and I learn all the better how wretched my own lot is.
