At Ōhara here,
Even Mount Oshio today
Surely will recall
The age of the gods of old—
This day of all days, surely.

Meaning
Here at Ōharano, even Mount Oshio today will surely recall the age of the gods on this very day.
Commentary
76. At Ōhara

When the Lady Nijō no Kisaki Takako was still called the mother of the Crown Prince (Prince Sadayasu), she went to worship the ancestral deity of her clan. An old man who served in the Konoe Guard tried to receive a reward together with the attendants, but the lady stepped down from her carriage and personally granted him a gift.
The poem was composed and presented by the old man in gratitude.

This poem is also included in the Kokinshū, Miscellaneous Poems (Part One), as a poem by Ariwara no Narihira, and the old man serving in the Konoe Guard is almost certainly Narihira himself. In The Tales of Ise there are also episodes describing the love between Narihira and Takako. In this poem Narihira expresses the feeling, “I too recall things from long ago,” giving it the meaning of a poem recalling an old love.
