Book Four Love Poems 703
Headnote: "Two poems by Kamunagibe no Maso no Otome"
From the day she met him until today, her sleeves have never dried of tears. Like the preceding poem by Kawachi no Momoe no Otome, it uses the phrase kyō made ni, "until today," singing of a longing that has lasted since the day they met.
The author, Kamunagibe no Maso no Otome, is a woman of whom little is known.
First line, "Since the day, my love," means my love.
Second line, "that I met with you, to this," means the day we met.
Third line, "the present day," means until today, the same line as the third of the preceding poem.
Fourth line, "never once have these my sleeves," means my sleeves.
Fifth line, "had a moment to grow dry," means there is no time they dry, closing on sleeves forever wet with tears.
