Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2207
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "On Autumn Leaves"
Seeing the short grass at home turning color, this poem infers that showers must be falling over Natsumi at Yonabari. It has almost the same construction as 2190; whereas that poem inferred autumn leaves falling on Namishiba Plain, this one infers showers falling over Natsumi, so the two are variant poems.
The first line, "of my dwelling," names the place.
The second line, "the short grass turns color," is the same as in 2190, and the poem breaks here.
The third line, "of Yonabari," names the same place as in 2190.
In the fourth line, "natsumi no ue ni," Natsumi is thought to be a place at Yonabari.
In the last line, "shigure fururashi," "rashi" marks grounded inference, closing by inferring distant showers from the nearby grass.
