English Translation
Clear as a mirror,
Minabuchi Mountain there,
today too, perhaps,
with the white dew settling down,
crimson leaves are scattering?
Meaning
On Mount Minabuchi, is the white dew settling today as well, and the autumn leaves scattering?
Commentary
Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2206

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "On Autumn Leaves"
This poem imagines whether today too, on Mount Minabuchi, white dew is settling and autumn leaves are scattering. Picturing the leaves of a distant mountain not before the eyes, it grieves at their falling. Like 1867 in the spring poems, "are the cherry blossoms of Mount Abo scattering today too," it uses "kyō mo ka mo" to imagine flowers or leaves falling on a distant mountain.

The first line, "masokagami," is a pillow word for the "mi" of "Minabuchi," from "miru," to look into a mirror.
The second line, "Mount Minabuchi," names the mountain south of Asuka.
In the third line, "kyō mo ka mo," "ka mo" is an interrogative particle in kakari-musubi with "ramu" in the last line; it is the same phrase as in 1867.
The fourth line, "the white dew settling," describes the scene.
In the last line, "momichi chiruramu," "ramu" is present conjecture, closing by imagining the present scene on the distant mountain.
