Book Ten Autumn Love Poems 2248
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love Expressed Through the Paddy Fields"
This poem wishes there were some way to meet the beloved who must be staying in a makeshift hut built for harvesting the autumn fields. It imagines the beloved in a distant temporary lodging for farm work, showing the frustration of not meeting. Whereas 2174 and 2235 in the autumn miscellaneous poems sang of the loneliness of the one in the hut, this poem is sung from the side of one who thinks of the person in the hut.
The first line, "reaping the autumn fields," names the work.
The second line, "building a makeshift hut," is the same as in 2174.
The third line, "lodging there," names the stay.
In the fourth line, "aruramu kimi o," "ramu" is present conjecture: you who must be there.
In the last line, "mimu yoshi mo ga mo," "yoshi" means a means and "mo ga mo" a wish, closing with a wish for some way to meet.
