Where the haze of spring
trails across the fields, I built
and lodged in a hut,
and till autumn's reaping time
you have made me yearn for you.

Book Ten Autumn Love Poems 2250
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love Expressed Through the Paddy Fields"
This poem says that from building a hut by the fields when the spring haze trailed until the autumn harvest, the speaker has been made to long all the while. The long period of farm work from spring to autumn shows how long the longing lasts. Like 2244, where the beloved did not come from sowing to harvest, it shows the length of love through the long span of farm work.
The first line, "spring haze," names the season of beginning.
The second line, "by the fields where it trails," names the place.
The third line, "building a hut," names the lodging.
The fourth line, "until the autumn fields are reaped," names the span.
In the last line, "omowashimuraku," "shimu" is causative and "raku" nominalizes: that you make me long.
