Shigure furu akatokizukuyo himo tokazu kouramu kimi to oramashi mono o

English Translation
As the showers fall
on the moonlit night near dawn,
sash left still untied,
you who must be longing so—
would that I could be with you!
Meaning
On this moonlit night before dawn, with autumn showers falling, I wish I could be with you, who must be longing for me with your sash still tied.
Commentary
Book Ten Autumn Love Poems 2306

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Poems in Dialogue"
This poem wishes to be with the beloved, who on this moonlit pre-dawn night of falling showers must be longing with his sash untied, and it forms an exchange with 2305. Answering the preceding poem's lament of sleeping alone fully clothed because of gossip, it replies with the wish to be with such a beloved. The two poems exchange the feelings of a man and woman thinking of each other apart.

The first line, "where showers fall," names the weather.
The second line, "akatokizukuyo," names a moonlit night before dawn.
The third line, "without loosening the sash," takes up "marone" of the preceding poem.
In the fourth line, "kouramu kimi to," "ramu" is present conjecture: with you who must be longing.
In the last line, "oramashi mono o," "mashi" is counterfactual and "mono o" adversative and exclamatory, closing with the wish to be together.
