Book Ten Winter Love Poems 2348
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love Expressed Through Snow"
This poem asks that the beloved be told the speaker has no trouble at all, like the snow that falls passing over the peak of Wazami, and it closes the group on snow. It shows a heart that, on a journey, wishes to tell a distant beloved of its safety and unchanging love. Amid the hardship of a journey over snowy peaks, it sings of a heart thinking of the beloved.
In the first line, "wazami no," Wazami is thought to be a place around Sekigahara in Mino Province; the line is short.
The second line, "passing over the peak," describes the journey.
The third line, "like the falling snow," with the upper lines forming a preface leading into "itoi."
In the fourth line, "itoi mo nashi to," "itoi" means aversion or trouble: that there is nothing wrong.
In the last line, "mōse sono ko ni," "mōse" is the imperative of a humble verb for "say": please tell that girl.
