Book Ten Winter Love Poems 2349
Headnote: "Love Expressed Through Flowers"
This poem waits for the beloved, wishing to show him every evening the plum blooming at home, since the moonlit nights are so fine. Its headnote is "Love Expressed Through Flowers." It shows the wish to share with the beloved the beauty of plum lit by the moon. In contrast to 2328 in the winter miscellaneous poems, which said the first plum blossoms may fall since no one comes to see, this poem waits for a beloved to show the plum to, singing the opposite feeling.
The first line, "at my dwelling," names the place.
The second line, "the plum that has bloomed," names the flowers.
In the third line, "tsukuyo yomi," "mi" marks cause: since the moonlit night is fine.
The fourth line, "that I would show every evening," gives the wish.
In the last line, "kimi o koso mate," "koso" is an emphatic particle answered by the perfective "mate," stressing the heart that waits for him.
