Book Twelve Thoughts Arising on Journeys 3139
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Thoughts Arising on Journeys"
The poet has not forgotten the beloved for a moment since the day of setting out and parting. Taking the day of parting as a starting point, it speaks of unceasing longing.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.
Line one, "tamahoko no," is a pillow word for "michi," road.
Line two, "michi ni idetachi," means "setting out on the road."
Line three, "wakarekoshi," means "having parted and come away."
Line four, "hi yori omou ni," means "thinking of you since that day."
Line five, "wasuru toki nashi," means "there is no time I forget."
