Book Twelve Poems Lamenting Parting 3195
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Poems Lamenting Parting"
A woman asks her lover to come straight back over Mount Iwaki, saying she will stand and wait on the beach of Konumi. The figure standing on the shore expresses her eager wait for his return.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.
Line one, "Iwakiyama," is thought to be a mountain in Shizuoka Prefecture, though its location is debated.
Line two, "tadagoe kimase," means "come straight over," and the poem pauses here.
Line three, "Isosaki no," means "of Isosaki."
Line four, "Konumi no hama ni," means "on the beach of Konumi," thought to be on the Shizuoka coast.
Line five, "ware tachimatamu," means "I will stand and wait."
