Book Twelve Poems Lamenting Parting 3196
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Poems Lamenting Parting"
A woman left behind on Kasuga Moor after her lover's departure sings of longing at all hours. The open moor of low reeds conveys the loneliness of one left behind.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.
Line one, "Kasugano no," means "of Kasuga Moor" in Nara. It also appears in poems 3001, 3042, and 3050 in this book.
Line two, "asaji ga hara ni," means "on the moor of low reeds."
Line three, "okurete ite," means "left behind," a hypermetric line of six syllables.
Line four, "toki zo to mo nashi," means "there is no set time."
Line five, "aga kouraku wa," means "to my longing," the same final line as poems 3087, 3088, and 3168 in this book.
