how has it fared since then

Book Eleven Love Poems III 783
Headnote: "When Kanemichi had grown distant and came to call after the new year."
The poet says the year has already turned, and asks what has become of his heart, like the waves that cross the Pine Hill. To a man who had stopped visiting and came only after the year had turned, she reproaches his change of heart.
According to the headnote, Fujiwara no Kanemichi had been visiting less and less and called on her after the year had passed, so she composed this poem. Following 755, 759, and 760 in this book, it takes waves crossing the Pine Hill of Sue as a figure for a change of heart.
The poet, listed as "Motohira no miko no musume," was a daughter of Prince Motohira. Her father, Prince Motohira, was a son of Emperor Yōzei.
The first line, "Aratama no," is a pillow word leading into "toshi," the year.
The second line, "toshi mo koenuru," means "the year too has passed over," "koe" layering the passing of the year with waves crossing the Pine Hill.
The third line, "matsuyama no," means "of the Pine Hill of Sue," a poetic place in Mutsu used, as in 755, 759, and 760 in this book, as a symbol of a change of heart.
The fourth line, "nami no kokoro wa," means "your heart like the waves," figuring his shifting heart as waves that cross the Pine Hill.
The last line, "ikaga naruramu," means "what has become of it," with "ramu" expressing present conjecture.
