Utsurowanu kokoro no fukaku arikereba kokora chiru hana haru ni aeru koto

English Translation
Because your heart,
that never fades, has run so deep,
the blossoms here
that scatter in such numbers
meet with the spring once more
Meaning
Because a heart that never changes runs so deep, even the blossoms that scatter in such numbers are able to meet the spring.
Commentary
Book Sixteen Miscellaneous Poems II 1156

Headnote: "Presented to the emperor."
The poet says that because an unchanging heart runs deep, even blossoms that scatter in such numbers meet the spring. Though her own lot is as frail as falling blossoms, she gives thanks to the emperor for his favor, saying that through his steadfast heart she can enjoy the blessings of spring.
According to the headnote, it was presented to the emperor, that is, Emperor Saga. Where the preceding poem laments the world's censure, this one rejoices in the emperor's favor, so the poems of two women connected with Emperor Saga stand in contrast.
The poet, "the Saga Empress," is Tachibana no Kachiko. Empress of Emperor Saga and mother of Emperor Ninmyō, she was also called Empress Danrin because she founded the temple Danrinji.

The first line, "Utsurowanu," means "that does not change," a heart whose color never fades.
The second line, "kokoro no fukaku," means "the heart, deeply," apparently referring to the emperor's deep, unchanging heart.
The third line, "arikereba," means "since it was so," with "kere" the perfective form of the past "keri" and "ba" expressing cause.
The fourth line, "kokora chiru hana," means "the blossoms that scatter in such numbers," with "kokora" meaning many. She sees herself in the easily scattered blossoms.
The last line, "haru ni aeru koto," means "how they meet with spring," ending on the noun "koto" to express emotion. Spring stands for the emperor's favor.
