Headnote: "Topic unknown"
Sleeping night after night on the road while longing only for the one left in the capital, the poet says there is not a single dawn when he is not wet with dew and tears. Overlaying the dew on the grass of his bed with tears, he expresses a longing that never ends through the days of travel.
First line, "kimi o nomi," means "you alone."
Second line, "koitsutsu tabi no," means "longing on my journey," with "tsutsu" expressing repetition and continuation.
Third line, "kusamakura," means sleeping on the road. Taking up "kusamakura" in the first line of the preceding poem, poems of sleeping on the road continue.
Fourth line, "tsuyu shigekaranu," means "when the dew does not lie thick," the dew standing for tears.
Final line, "akatsuki zo naki," means "there is no dawn," with "zo" resolved by the attributive "naki." It pairs with "tatsu akatsuki" in 301 at the head of the book, the dawn of departure and the dawn on the road.
