How past all reason!
This heart that still insists
on trusting in you,
though at the very same time
I think you are cruel and cold.

Book Fifteen Love Poems V 943
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
The poem says: how hopeless it is, this heart that insists on trusting the other, even while thinking them cold. It laments as irrational one's own heart, which cannot help clinging to hope while knowing the other's coldness.
First line, "warinashi ya," means "how hopeless, how unreasonable," with "ya" exclamatory. The poem breaks here. It shares "warinashi" with the final line of 945 in this book, "warinakarikere."
Second line, "shiite mo tanomu," means "trusting even by force."
Third line, "kokoro kana," means "such is my heart," with "kana" exclamatory. The poem breaks here again.
Fourth line, "tsurashi to katsu wa," means "that you are cold, on the other hand," with "katsu wa" meaning "at the same time."
Final line, "omou mono kara," means "even while I think so," with "mono kara" adversative. The whole lower verse is inverted, placing last what logically comes before the upper verse. It shares "mono kara" with 932, 944, and 946 in this book.
