Book Fifteen Love Poems V 973
Headnote: "Topic unknown"
The poem says that if I did not love, coldness would not hurt; it is because I trust the other that I have come to resent them. It sees that resentment is the reverse side of reliance on the other, and reflects on one's own heart.
From this poem through 987, poems of resentment continue, and this poem stands at their beginning.
First line, "omowazu wa," means "if I did not love."
Second line, "tsurenaki koto mo," means "even cold treatment."
Third line, "tsurakaraji," means "would not be painful," with "ji" a negative conjecture. The poem breaks here.
Fourth line, "tanomeba hito o," means "since I rely on them, that person." It answers the fourth line of 981 in this book, "tanomu kokoro no," in treating the bond between reliance and resentment.
Final line, "uramitsuru kana," means "how I have resented," with "kana" exclamatory. It is the same as the final line of 953 in this book, "uramitsuru kana."
