Aware naru kusa no iori ni moru tsuki o sode ni utsushite nagametsuru kana

English Translation
Into the grass hut,
full of the heart's deep feeling,
the moonlight leaking,
I let shine upon my sleeves
and gazed at it lost in thought.
Meaning
The moonlight leaking into my grass hut, so full of quiet feeling, I let shine in my sleeves and gazed upon it, lost in thought.
Commentary
Autumn Poems 348

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "When I composed many poems on the moon"
This is the twelfth poem in the moon series. The moonlight leaking through the roof of the grass hut, so full of quiet feeling, the poet has let shine in his tear-wet sleeves and gazed upon it, lost in thought. It paints a lonely yet beautiful scene of one in a rough grass hut gazing at the moon lodged in the tears on his sleeves.
Following the preceding poem, which regretted passing by a humble hut without knowing the moon that leaked into it, here the poet himself lives in a grass hut and gazes at the moonlight leaking in, reflected in his sleeves. It also echoes 346, where the moon is lodged in the sleeves.

First line, “aware naru”: full of quiet feeling, modifying kusa no iori in the second line.
Second line, “kusa no iori ni”: into a rough hut thatched with grass.
Third line, “moru tsuki o”: the moonlight leaking in through the gaps.
Fourth line, “sode ni utsushite”: reflecting the moonlight in the tear-wet sleeves.
Fifth line, “nagametsuru kana”: tsuru is the attributive of the perfective tsu, and kana is exclamatory, how I gazed upon it, lost in thought.
