Hito mo kozu kokoro mo chirade yamakage wa hana o miru ni mo tayori arikeri

English Translation
No one comes this way,
and the heart is not scattered,
so in the hills' shade
even for viewing blossoms
there's a fine place to be found.
Meaning
With no one coming and the heart never scattered, a dwelling in the mountain's shade is a fine place even for viewing the blossoms.
Commentary
Miscellaneous Poems 1037

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
A dwelling in the mountain's shade, where no one comes and the heart is not scattered, proves a fine place even for viewing blossoms, the poet says, turning the loneliness of having no visitors into the advantage of seeing the flowers with a quiet heart. It takes up the blossoms of Yoshino and withdrawal from the world in the preceding poem.

First line, “hito mo kozu”: no one coming.
Second line, “kokoro mo chirade”: the heart not scattered; chiru is related to blossoms.
Third line, “yamakage wa”: a dwelling in the mountain's shade.
Fourth line, “hana o miru ni mo”: even for viewing blossoms.
Fifth line, “tayori arikeri”: tayori is convenience, a good chance; keri closes with a sigh.
