Miscellaneous Poems 1427
Headnote: none
Who would think of him and come seeking, pushing through the deep dew of the mountain path he enters? the poet asks; no one.
The loneliness of a recluse entering deep mountains is entrusted to a dew-soaked mountain path. Though lamenting that no one will come, he enters the mountains resigned to it.
First line, “omoiidete”: remembering me; the line has an extra syllable.
Second line, “tare ka wa tomete”: ka wa is rhetorical, "who would seek me."
Third line, “wake mo kon”: answering ka wa, "would come pushing through? No one"; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “iru yamamichi no”: of the mountain path I take.
Fifth line, “tsuyu no fukasa o”: the depth of the dew, the inversion naming what one would push through.
