Of your own accord
look on them with tender heart—
now that spring is deep,
still unfallen on the bank,
the kerria's yellow flowers.
Meaning
Look on them, I hope, with a tender heart of your own accord—these kerria blossoms still lingering on the bank now that spring has grown deep.
Commentary
Spring Poems 123

Headnote: "Having a spray of yellow kerria broken off to send to someone"
This poem accompanied a spray of kerria the poet had someone break off and send to another person. He hopes the recipient will naturally find moving the kerria still unfallen on the bank as spring deepens. In the brave lingering of the flowers he entrusts his feelings for the recipient.
In the Ruijū text the headnote begins "Breaking off kerria flowers…," and the Teika text differs in the fourth line.

Line 1 means "naturally, of your own accord."
Line 2 is imperative, hoping the flowers will be seen with deep feeling; the poem pauses here.
Line 3 gives the reason, "since spring is deep," the same line as in 91 and 94.
Line 4 is hypermetric at eight syllables, naming the flowers remaining on the bank.
Line 5 ends on a noun, naming in inversion the flowers the poet wishes to be seen.
