go on longing evermore?

Like the long beach of Kiku in the land of Toyo, shall I go on and on longing for one I have never seen even in my dreams?
Commentary
Love Poems 453

Headnote: "Composed on the theme of love at famous places"
Working in the poetic place name of the long beach of Kiku in Toyo, the poet wonders whether, as long as that beach, he will go on loving someone he has never seen even in dreams. From here follow love poems tied to famous places.
The Ruijū text titles it "A love poem."

Line 1 means "of the land of Toyo," roughly eastern Fukuoka and Ōita today.
Line 2 names the long beach of Kiku in Buzen, whose length suggests a long-continuing love.
Line 3 means "even in a dream," dani naming the least case.
Line 4 means "for one I have not yet seen," a heart loving by report alone.
Line 5: ya binds the attributive mu. It is the same last line as 448, and it recurs in the place-name poems that follow.
