On the moor of reeds
the fleeting frost is
knotted hard and cold;
while waiting for the sunlight
shall I go on fading?

Love Poems 510
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love in winter"
As the fleeting frost on the reed moor melts while waiting for the sun, the poet wonders whether, his heart knotted, he will fade away while waiting for his beloved. The dew of the preceding poem becomes frost, and the theme of waiting is repeated.
Line 1 is the same as line 1 of the preceding poem.
Line 2 means "of the fleeting frost," changing the dew of the preceding poem to frost.
Line 3 overlays congealing frost and a gloomy heart, the same word as line 4 of the preceding poem.
Line 4 means "while it waits for the sunlight," overlaying the sun that melts frost with waiting for the beloved.
Line 5 is the same last line as the preceding poem.
