Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Among poems on the gods"
The countless gods of the four quarters gather at the shrine on the High Plain of Heaven, its crossed roof beams rising high. The grand scene of myth is drawn in an archaic, forceful cadence.
The Ruijū text places it in its section on the gods. The base text reads line 5 as kishi takaku shite, corrected to chigi takaku shite from another copy; that reading is followed here. The Ruijū text and the text transmitted by Teika read kiki takaku shite.
Line 1 means "eight hundred myriad," countless.
Line 2 means "the gods of the four quarters."
Line 3 means "have gathered," ri expressing a continuing state, with a break after the line.
Line 4 means "on the High Plain of Heaven," moving from the earthly river of Ise in the preceding poem to the heavens.
Line 5 means "with crossbeams raised high," in inversion.
